Solar thermal and photovoltaic systems in Morocco: legal framework and site checks
Solar installations on Moroccan buildings are framed by laws rather than mandatory product standards. Law 13-09 on renewable energy governs electricity produced from renewable sources, including grid-connected photovoltaic systems. Law 47-09 on energy efficiency is the legal basis of the RTCM thermal regulation (Decree No. 2-13-874) and of appliance performance requirements under Decree No. 2-20-716. The few standards listed for this package, on solar and light properties of glazing and on the calculation of solar thermal systems, are homologated. A voluntary sustainable construction label is being rolled out and may interest clients who ask for it.
Scope
The page covers solar water heaters (thermosiphon or pumped), their collectors, tanks and backup heating, and photovoltaic installations on roofs or shading structures with their inverters, protective devices and, where used, batteries.
It begins at detailed design, when roof space, orientation, structural loads and pipe or cable routes are reserved, and ends with commissioning and the handover of operating instructions. Hot water distribution belongs to plumbing and the main electrical board to the electrical package.

Frequently asked questions
Is a solar water heater mandatory in Morocco?
The catalogue shows no general obligation. The RTCM and energy efficiency law encourage efficient solutions, and some project specifications require it.
Can I connect my solar panels to the grid?
Law 13-09 provides the framework for renewable electricity. Connection conditions depend on the distributor and the current procedure; check them before ordering the equipment.
Does the roof need to be checked?
Yes. A full solar tank is heavy and panels are exposed to wind; the structural engineer confirms the loads and fixing method.
What should I receive at the end?
The diagrams, data sheets, commissioning report and maintenance instructions for the solar heater and the photovoltaic system.
