Building façades in Morocco: cladding, curtain walling, fire safety and heritage rules
A façade in Morocco has to satisfy several regulations at once. The energy code RTCM (Decree No. 2-13-874) counts walls and glazing in the envelope balance; the fire regulation (Decree No. 2-14-499) governs how fire may spread across the building; and in medinas or near listed monuments, Law 22-80 subjects works to authorisation. Three façade products carry mandatory standards: coated steel sheet (NM EN 10346), metal-faced sandwich panels (NM EN 14509) and glazed assemblies (NM ISO 9051). Curtain walls, façade paints and reaction to fire follow homologated standards.
Scope
This page considers the outer skin of the building beyond plain render: ventilated cladding (stone, composite panels, metal), curtain walls and glazed façades, sandwich-panel façades on industrial buildings, façade paints and coatings, and the refurbishment of existing façades. The windows themselves are covered on the aluminium joinery page.
Work is framed by the architect's façade details and the approval of samples, then carried out once the structure and masonry are accepted. It ends with the joint and sealing checks and the cleaning of the façade before scaffolding comes down.

Frequently asked questions
Which façade products are under mandatory Moroccan standards?
Coated steel sheet (NM EN 10346), metal-faced sandwich panels (NM EN 14509) and glazed assemblies (NM ISO 9051). Curtain walls and façade paints follow homologated standards.
Does the fire regulation restrict cladding materials?
Yes. Decree No. 2-14-499 sets requirements by building class, and the reaction-to-fire class of cladding and insulation must be justified, usually through NM EN 13501-1.
Do I need permission to change a façade in a medina?
In listed sites and their surroundings, Law 22-80 subjects works to authorisation. Check with the urban agency and the heritage authorities before designing.
How does the façade affect the RTCM?
Walls and glazing make up most of the envelope; their insulation, glazing ratio and solar protection are part of the RTCM justification.
Why ask for a trial panel?
It fixes colour, texture and joint appearance before production, and serves as the reference when accepting the finished façade.
