Interior timber joinery in Morocco: doors, panels, ironmongery, fire and accessibility rules

Interior timber joinery in Morocco covers doors, built-in cupboards and panelling, and several of its components are subject to mandatory standards: flush interior doors (NM 10.2.476), plywood and blockboard (NM 13.6.116), melamine-faced boards (NM EN 14322), and the main ironmongery, namely mortice locks (NM 10.2.217), cylinders (NM EN 1303) and mechanical locks (NM EN 12209). Two regulations shape the design: the fire regulation (Decree No. 2-14-499) for fire-resisting doors on escape routes, and the accessibility Law 10-03 with its Decree No. 2-11-246 for door openings in buildings open to the public.

Scope

The page looks at interior doorsets (frames, leaves, ironmongery), entrance and armoured doors to apartments, fire-resisting doors, fitted wardrobes and kitchen carcasses made of wood-based panels, skirtings and timber linings. External timber windows are mentioned only through the shared window standard.

Door positions, hand and fire ratings are fixed with the detailed drawings; finishes and models are approved as samples; frames are set during the renders stage and leaves hung at the finishing stage, once wet trades have dried out.

Clear opening narrower than required on an accessible route.Widen the opening or change the doorset before handover, as the accessibility rules require.
Door leaves warped or swollen after installation.Check the humidity of the walls and screeds; replace the leaves once the building has dried out.

Frequently asked questions

Are interior doors covered by a mandatory standard in Morocco?

Yes. Flush interior timber doors follow NM 10.2.476, a standard of mandatory application, and the main lock standards are mandatory too.

Which boards used in fitted furniture are regulated?

Plywood and blockboard (NM 13.6.116) and melamine-faced boards for interior use (NM EN 14322) are of mandatory application.

When is a fire door required?

The fire regulation (Decree No. 2-14-499) defines it according to the building class, the escape routes and the compartments. The architect marks fire doors on the schedule.

Do accessibility rules affect interior doors?

Yes, in buildings open to the public and in collective housing covered by Law 10-03. Its implementing decree sets requirements on doors and passages.

When should interior doors be hung?

After plaster, screeds and tiling have dried, so that leaves do not absorb moisture and warp.
