Aluminium windows and doors in Morocco: mandatory glass, coating and hardware standards

Aluminium windows, sliding doors and fixed frames in Morocco bring together many mandatory product standards. The old window standard NM 10.2.002 still applies, as do the standards for powder coatings on profiles (NM 03.2.232), basic glass (NM EN 572), toughened glass (NM EN 12150-1), laminated safety glass (NM ISO 12543), security glazing (NM EN 356), sealants (NM ISO 11600) and mechanical locks (NM EN 12209, in force since 18/03/2026). Air, water and wind performance classes are homologated standards that the CPS should name. The RTCM brings thermal requirements for glazing.

Scope

This page relates to external aluminium joinery: casement and sliding windows, sliding and pocket patio doors, fixed lights, and their glazing, hardware, seals and installation in the wall opening. Glazed curtain walls are covered on the façades page; interior timber doors on their own page.

Choices are made at design stage (performance, glazing, thermal break or not), confirmed by sample approval before ordering, and checked when the frames are installed during the renders stage. Final adjustment and acceptance happen at the inspection before handover.

Who does what

PartyRole
ArchitectSpecifies opening types, performance classes, glazing and colours, draws sill and reveal details and approves samples.
Thermal engineerSets the glazing and frame performance needed for the RTCM justification.
Aluminium joinery contractorTakes site dimensions, produces shop drawings, fabricates and installs, and supplies certificates for glass, coatings and locks.
Rendering contractorPrepares openings that are square and level, and finishes reveals after the frames are fixed.
Client (owner)Approves the sample window and colour, and checks that safety glass is used where people could fall or impact the glazing.

Inspection milestones

  1. Architectural details and coordination of openings Good practice
Window schedule with performance classes, glazing types and sill details coordinated with structure and façade.
  2. Samples and finishes approved Specification (CPS) requirement
Sample window, profile colour and hardware approved in writing before the order is placed.
  3. Renders, screeds and joinery installed Specification (CPS) requirement
Frames plumb, fixed and sealed; drainage slots clear; glass marking checked; opening sashes operating smoothly.

Common non-conformities and follow-up

FindingAction
Ordinary float glass fitted where the drawings call for laminated safety glass.Replace the pane before handover; the specified glass is the one that protects occupants at that position.
Water entering at the sill after rain.Check drainage slots, sill slope and sealant; correct and test with a hose in the presence of the architect.
Coating scratched or colour inconsistent between frames.Touch-up only if the architect accepts it; otherwise replace the affected profiles.
Frame fixed with foam alone, without mechanical fixings.Remove sealant where needed and add the fixings specified by the manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Which aluminium window standards are mandatory in Morocco?

NM 10.2.002 for windows, NM 03.2.232 for powder coatings, the glass standards (NM EN 572, NM EN 12150-1, NM ISO 12543, NM EN 356), NM ISO 11600 for sealants and NM EN 12209 for locks.

Are air and water tightness classes compulsory?

The classification standards (NM EN 12207 for air, NM EN 12210 for wind) are homologated. The CPS should state the classes required for the building's exposure.

Is thermally broken aluminium required?

Not as such. The RTCM sets envelope performance, and the thermal engineer decides whether the glazing must use thermally broken frames to meet it.

Where must safety glass be used?

Wherever there is a risk of impact or fall, such as low glazing, glazed doors and guarding. The architect marks those positions on the window schedule.

What should be handed over with the windows?

Glass and coating certificates, the lock documentation, keys, and care instructions for seals and drainage.
